Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I send my daughter/son to Barbizon?

We believe personality, marketing, networking, attitude and commitment play a vital role in getting started. Since 1969, Barbizon Georgia has been developing models and talent and forging relationships with the top agencies throughout the United States and beyond. While very few companies can say they have been around for as long as we’ve been, we are also proud to be regarded as the industries Top Producer of Professional Models and Actors. We are here to be your support system and help you “get started”. Being in this business for 4 decades makes us experts in providing a foundation for what makes a person successful in the modeling and talent industries.

I’ve heard that all models have to be tall and skinny is that true?

While High Fashion Models in cities like New York and Paris are required to have certain measurements and must be at least 5’8 or 5’9, there are many other markets which are considered commercial and Atlanta is one of them. Commercial markets cover a vast array of potential jobs from web, catalog, print, trade, television, film, etc. Success in a commercial market can depend on many things, but we find that the two most important things are having a “look” and having a personality. Many people underestimate the importance of having a vibrant personality in the modeling and acting industry.

I’ve read an article on the internet that says bad things about the modeling and acting industry.

One thing we’ve learned from the internet is that just because you see something in “print”, doesn’t mean that it’s true, or that it’s entirely factual. First, you always need to check the source and make sure it’s trustworthy. Second, determine whether the story follows the basic rules of journalism; does it answer the questions who, what, where, when, why and how?

Will I have fun at Barbizon?

It takes hard work and determination to achieve your goals in life. It’s no different at Barbizon.

Will attending Barbizon interfere with School?

Absolutely not. Barbizon classes meet only on the weekends, typically 1-2 times a month. In addition, we expect our students to maintain good grades, and offer incentives through our academic achievers program to students who improve their grades over the course of their Barbizon Program. Barbizon International is also very proud to award a $100,000 scholarship EVERY YEAR to one very fortunate Barbizon student. In 2007 we were overjoyed to learn that Charlene Miller, from Lithonia High School right here in Atlanta, was the winner of the $100,000 College Scholarship!

I would love to take classes at Barbizon, but I’m not sure I have the time.

Barbizon has flexible class schedules to suit any lifestyle. In fact, the type of person most likely to attend Barbizon is the type of person who is involved in extra-curricular activities and creative pursuits.

Can Barbizon help me overcome my shyness or low self-esteem?

Perhaps you cannot see yourself performing a monologue or walking the runway in front of a large crowd of people right now because you don’t feel you have the self-confidence-Barbizon can help you with that. Whether you attend Barbizon to pursue modeling and acting, or you need to build your confidence, we can help. Barbizon workshops are something that will benefit you throughout your life.

My child wants to attend Barbizon, but I’m not sure I can afford it.

There are some things in life that you just can’t put a price tag on; having self-confidence is one of them. It is our responsibility as parents to give our children every opportunity to explore their interests. Barbizon offers several financing options for those that we feel would be a good fit.

Will I need to relocate?

Depending on what your modeling/acting goals are, you may want to be open to the possibility of an opportunity with an agent elsewhere in the country or even overseas. For the large majority, the Atlanta market provides more than enough opportunities to work, and relocating is not part of the equation.
